«Simply Explained» – the results of the Global Conference on the Sustained Eradication of Child Labour explained child-friendly

The initial aim of the «It’s Time to Talk!»-campaign was to visit the Global Conference on the Sustained Eradication of Child Labour in Buenos Aires in November 2017 together with a children’s delegation. Unfortunately, because of several complications concerning time and logistics, we were not able make this happen. The Steering committee of Time to Talk! travelled as representatives for all participating children to Argentina and presented the campaign and it’s final report with all conclusions and results.

A child-friendly version of the report is already available, so children who are affected by the results are able to learn all about them. Since the report is just one aspect, we also want to inform about the conference itself. All participating countries decided to adopt a declaration, which we rephrased in «Simply Explained» into a child-friendly paper that can easily be understood by children. So those who are affected will be able to know, which decisions have been made concerning the future of child labour.

Main principles

One of our main principles is that everyone has to understand, that every working child is able to form his or her own opinion about the work he or she is doing. Furthermore it has to be ensured, that every child is able to express that opinion, that it is heard and that it is taken serious. The declaration also addresses governments and world leaders around the globe, to do everything in their power to end child labour until 2030. They should invest more into schools, protect children who are exploited, but also create fair work conditions for those who have to work. Another principle is that «knowledge is power». The more you know about a problem, the better you can work to fix it, compare solutions and evaluate the progress.

Supermaia and Paul, who you may already know from the child-friendly report, guide you through the results of the Buenos Aires declaration and also present the messages of the Time to Talk! children.

The report is available in German, English, Spanish and French
