India: A ride for child rights

Our partner in India “PARA – People’s Action for Rural Awakening” organized a Bike rally to raise awareness for the support of working children.

Together with many supporters, our Time to Talk! partner PARA, was part of a Bike rally under the slogan “Ride for Rights” trough the city of Rajamahendravaram. The rally took place on Sunday, 22nd of June 2019, in regards to the World’s Day Against Child Labour on June, 12th. Around 60 bikes and 120 children and people from different areas participated.

Therefore the Goal of the rally, initiated by the “Child-Friendly Cities Initiative” was to raise awareness for child labour and the need for child friendly cities. In the rally, a The rally passed through various lanes of the city with slogans like “Children to School – Not to Work”, “ Support Child-Friendly Rajamahendravaram” or “Child must Learn, Not Earn”.

Engagement of PARA

PARA itself has made strong efforts in the past towards making Rajahmundry a child-friendly city by eliminating child labour, child trafficking and every form of abuse of children. Father Ignatius, Director of People’s Action for Rural Awakening, said, “we all could provide prosperous career for children if we come together often on their behalf”.
